golf course design method...

We believe that the landscape of the golf course is integral to the quality of play, the aesthetics of the course, and is central to what makes the golf course an environmental asset for its community.
Many golf courses have significant areas of natural landscape (often up to 65% of the site) consisting of rough and non-golf play areas, natural grasses, trees and shrubs. It is these areas, along with the clubhouse and entry, residential and resort areas that we work to integrate into the surrounding environment.
We apply a site-specific design approach incorporating current environmental practice whilst appealing to the intended golf market and the strategic concerns of the owners.
Over the years working in Asia, we have developed a landscape design and installation method that is efficient in construction and maintenance requirements and considerate of the course maturation. The four key aspects to this method are;
- Working closely with the golf course architect, the contractors as well as the owners and their staff, allowing for substantial input throughout the design process from all project members.
- Generating the landscape design in our studio, to cultivate strong project design themes.
- Working the final design through to completion on site where hidden details not apparent in the design documents can be implemented. It is in this aspect that our work is unique, and where the refinements of the landscape design ideas are realized.
- Incorporating local styles and traditions, with western methods of project and human resource management.
Our emphasis is on an open, flexible and co-operative approach. Experience has shown that these methods have proven to be successful in achieving outstanding results.
we are leaders in the design and installation of golf course landscapes
- Landscape Master Plans
The master plan graphically displays the major landscape theme for the course and will elaborate on the specific landscape style for each hole if appropriate. The landscape master plan when coloured, often becomes a valuable marketing tool for incorporation into sales brochures. - Landscape Planting Plans
detailing the type and position of all trees, shrubs, groundcovers and rough areas. Preparation of landscape plans for each hole of golf, which details species types, locations, size of trees, shrubs and other plants, along with associated works such as screening adjacent to the golf course, roughs and outlying areas such that the landscape staff of the golf course can begin immediate plant procurement and plant installation as soon as the drawings are received. An initial consultation and site visit is required in order to analyse the site and to liaise with the owners and their agents and the golf course architect. - Landscape Engineering Design of Earthworks
Including bulk earthworks calculations, cut and fills, 3-D modelling of each hole. Fly-throughs. Special contour earth shaping. - Landscape Engineering Design of Wastewater Treatment and Disposal
In tandem with constructed wetlands, the landscape of the golf course may be used to treat effluent from the associated activities on the golf course such as the clubhouse and residential areas. - Drainage and Irrigation Engineering
Design of stormwater management facilities including best management practice to minimise pollutants and discharge of nutrients and suspended solids into the surrounding waterways. Design for irrigation systems utilizing treated effluent. - CAD Documentation
Drawings may be prepared on CAD or may be hand -drawn. - Detail Landscape Plans
for specific features of the course. Eg: shelters, lake edge treatments, water features, driving range and bridge approaches. - Preparation of Specifications
detailing plant species types, quantities, sizes, minimum install heights, spacings and planting requirements. - Detail Planting Design for Clubhouse Surrounds
so as to integrate the clubhouse into its unique golf setting.
- Landscape Design of Areas Outside the Essential Golf Course Zone
Areas such as the main entry, car parks, recreational areas, boundaries and adjoining residential areas can be designed to complement the landscape style of the course. - Plant Nursery Set Up
If time frames allow, it is often appropriate to set up a plant production nursery to propagate indigenous plants that may not be readily available from local nurseries. We have extensive expertise in this area and can achieve lower costs on plant material. - Planting Supervision
Staking and placement of all planting. These visits are typically of two weeks duration for each nine holes, and are timed to coincide with the optimum planting season. During this time significant changes can be made on-site which can save on excessive documentation. - Telephone, Fax and Email Technical Support
throughout the duration of the landscape installation. - The Presence of the Landscape Architect and/or Project Manager
for duration of the site visits as required
